Message from the PrincipalI was born and raised in Grapeland, Texas, and I am proud to be entering my 20th year in education. Throughout my career, I have been blessed to serve students, teachers, and communities in a variety of roles as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and now principal.
Before beginning my career in education, I had the honor of serving my country as a member of the United States Army. Military service taught me the importance of discipline, integrity, teamwork, and servant leadership values that continue to guide me every day. My wife, Ashley, is currently serving on active duty in the United States military, and I am incredibly proud of her commitment and sacrifice.
I earned my bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University Axe 'Em, Jacks! Throughout my educational career, I have had the privilege of serving in Lewisville ISD, Tyler ISD, Grapeland ISD, and Jacksonville North Pulaski School District before joining Stratford ISD as the Principal of Stratford Junior High.
Family is the greatest blessing in my life. My wife, Ashley, and I have two amazing daughters. Jada is a 20-year-old collegiate volleyball player, and Jordyn is our energetic four-year-old who keeps us laughing every day. Spending quality time with my family is what I value most.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy grilling, working out, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. I believe that building positive relationships, maintaining high expectations, and creating a culture of continuous improvement are the keys to helping students and staff reach their fullest potential.
One quote that has become my personal philosophy is:
"It's not about being right; it's about getting it right."
I strive to live by those words each day, knowing that growth comes from collaboration, learning from mistakes, and always doing what is best for students.
Dr. Jason Shepherd
